Appreciation

Every summer as a young girl, I was allowed to visit my grandparents. Every Sunday while I was there, we would cut a bouquet of gladiolas and visit my uncle’s grave. These flowers came from Grandma’s garden (half was planted with vegetables and strawberries and the other half with gladiolas, approximately 150 were planted every year. There were all colours, and they bloomed at different times so there were always flowers to be picked.)

Every Sunday, I would comment on the beautiful bouquet and Grandma would say thank God, for the flowers come from God. Now that I have retired and moved to Saskatchewan, there is more beauty. I love to see the wheat fields waving in the breeze and the sunsets on the prairies are magnificent. The hymn “All things bright and beautiful” contains the line, “the Lord God made them all.” How very true.

God created heaven and earth, therefore all things belong to God. The earth is God’s temple, and no person could build anything glorious enough for God.

Creating God, thank you for the beauty you have given us. We ask that you give us the eyes to appreciate it. Amen. — BW
