..but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. (verse 6)
Teaching our children the difference between right and wrong can be difficult and tedious. We especially need to be careful because they mimic everything we do as adults.
A few years ago my three-year-old son asked me for a Kinder Surprise Egg in the checkout line at the grocery store. I agreed he could have one for being good while we were shopping. He took one off the shelf and I asked for him to give it to me. He said no. I tried to explain that the cashier had to ring it in and I would give it right back. He said no and started to cry.
Even the cashier tried to help me but he didn’t understand. Finally I just had to tell him that if he didn’t let the cashier ring in his treat, he would be stealing and Jesus did not like stealing. He seemed to understand and reluctantly gave me the treat for the cashier. And sure enough we gave it right back to him.
If we learn nothing more from the Bible, we can learn the Ten Commandments. They provide us with all we need to live a godly life.
True God, may we feel your steadfast love and keep your commandments holy. Amen. — JR
