The LORD dealt with Sarah as he had said? (verse 1)
I have learned from my five-year-old that you never use the word promise unless you can keep that promise. It only takes the look of disappointment on my five-year-old’s face to realize that I made a big mistake.
It isn’t like I am unreliable and can’t make a commitment. Sometimes I say yes to something without fully realizing what I have committed myself to. When I just need a moment of peace and quiet during the day, I have caught myself promising we will do something just so I can find a little time for myself. For me it is only a stall tactic but for my five-year-old my words are ironclad.
Abraham and Sarah were well beyond their years of having children. They were quite old and the idea of them becoming parents seemed but a distant dream. As the years went by, their faith was challenged in believing that God would give them a child. God always fulfills promises. We can trust in God because God’s love is steadfast and great. We cannot rush God. We must continue to pray and put our complete trust in the Lord and remember our covenant with God.
Gracious God, may we have faith that all things will be done as promised. Amen. — JR
