Ever have one of those mornings when all you want to do is curl up under the covers and sleep for another hour? But the kids are up and need guidance, and there are schedules and demands that need to be met. It can be exhausting, especially in February.
The book of Hebrews was written for a people who were exhausted. They were suffering. They needed an infusion of hope and encouragement as badly as some of us need an infusion of caffeine. They were looking for some compassion. They were looking for someone who understood that life is hard. They were looking for a reason to keep going, a reason to get out of bed and face another day.
I think we can all relate to that need. What a gift it is to have a God who knows what it is like to experience the struggle of being human.
We do not know what the future holds, but thanks to Jesus, we know the one who holds the future. And knowing that God holds the future may be just the reminder we need as we sip our morning coffee and face another winter day.
Dear Lord, you hold the future. You understand our exhaustion and our stress. Infuse in us a sense of hope and light to shine on the day ahead. Amen. — VB
