Thursday January 18th, 2018 Confession of Peter Matthew 16:13-19
"?on this rock I will build my church?" (verse 18)
Have you ever tried to build on rock? I live on a big beautiful island, Vancouver Island. And it’s hard to build on rock!
Up our street new houses are being built. It takes days to blast through the rock to create a space for the new homes, and many are built on top of and around the largest rocks. I’ve seen homes where entire portions of the home are actually rock; the rock upon which the home was built becomes part of the home. Drilling posts or fences and securing anything to the rock takes careful planning and precise workmanship. In our yard, our landscaping has to work around the rocks; it doesn’t matter where we want the hot tub or the steps, the rocks dictate.
Rock is almost immovable. Rock is unwavering. Jesus told Peter he was a rock and upon that rock he would build his church.
What an incredible statement. What a powerful image of whom and what Peter had become in his faith, to be the rock upon which the entire church is built. To be the stalwart, unyielding, immovable and fundamentally solid foundation God needed is mind blowing.
Loving God, build our faith as you did Peter's. Help us become equally solid and immovable in our faith. Amen. — KNM
