Monday January 8th, 2018 Ephesians 3:1-12
?so that through the church the wisdom of God in its rich variety might now be made known? (verse 10)
We have just been through the 12-day season of Christmas, Epiphany on January 6, and Baptism of Our Lord yesterday. And it won’t be very long until Ash Wednesday sends us into Lent.
Yet today, on this Monday following weeks of preparation for the celebration of Christmas and then Epiphany, we return to a more calm and steady time. We return to ordinary time, that season of green when we are not actively telling the grand stories of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter.
Paul reminds the Ephesians, and us, of the purpose of all the celebration: so that through the church, through all the work and preparations, through the special liturgies that tell the familiar stories anew, through the extra services, through the extra care and attention to make it all happen, God is revealed. God is being revealed in us and in the story that we seem to tell over and over again.
Sometimes we need to take a moment to breathe and remember why we go to all the fuss.
God of the church, remind us of why we tell your story again and again. Amen. — EP
