Friday June 9th, 2017 Psalm 8
?what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? (verse 4)
We had a fish tank when I was a child. I used to enjoy watching the fish swim around. If one died, we would replace it. When it was time to clean out the tank, I wanted nothing to do with it. Later, as an adult, my wife and I had a fish tank. Again, I enjoyed watching the fish, and I still wanted nothing to do with it at cleaning time. Needless to say, we no longer have a fish tank.
I read a story recently about a young woman who spent $500 on surgery for her pet goldfish after it choked on a pebble. Some might call her choice foolish or wasteful. On the other hand, she showed care and concern for her beloved pet. Even this lowly goldfish is worth the $500 vet bill to her.
Her story reminds me of God’s love for us. Like a lost coin or sheep, God searches recklessly for us and rejoices over us when we are found. There are about 7.4 billion people in this world today, but like a young woman and her goldfish, God is still mindful of each one of us and cares for each one.
O God, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Thank you for your love for me and my 7.4 billion neighbours. Amen. — ANS
