As one who sometimes reads directions too late, I notice the detail in this passage where God spelled out so very clearly how the Passover was to be carried out.
It’s obvious the directions are to be followed exactly, like little children who need very clear and detailed instructions. And what is the reason? No explanation is given except the one authoritative statement: “I am the Lord.” Remember questioning your folks as a child? “I am your Dad/Mom. Do it!”
God also leaves no doubt. The plan for our well-being has already been determined. Actually, when that truth is grasped, a heavy load is lifted from us. Then we can live this life in freedom and joy, knowing that God is in charge with a plan for the best in our lives. This is Gospel, Good News!
I think of the Old Testament as the “childhood training period” for God’s people-to get them/us ready for the fullest revelation of God in Jesus. Then the mark of early Christians, “Jesus is Lord” follows logically from that early statement of fact, “I am the Lord.” Thus we can live in comforting confidence that God is in charge in Christ.
Thank you, Almighty God, that you are in charge. Help me to accept your direction in Christ in all of my life. Amen. — AAG
