For we are God's servants, working together; you are God's field, God's building. (verse 9)
Last year, when I was still serving in Radisson/Langham Parish in Saskatchewan, the ecumenical community in Langham decided to come together to sponsor a refugee family. This decision to work together didn’t happen overnight. We spent the past three years growing together through faith studies, way of the cross walks, prayer groups and other ministries.
In rural communities the churches are getting smaller, and it makes sense that we can do so much more together then apart. Is your church working together with other churches to reflect the love of God in your communities?
Paul spends a lot of his time trying to help congregations work through their differences so that they can work together. The church in Corinth dealt with a lot of division. Paul’s main message always encouraged churches to work together for the sake of the gospel.
When we put our differences aside and work together, the impact this work has on our community is amazing. Over the six years I pastored in the Langham area I was amazed at how our work together truly transformed Langham into a more loving community. May your communities experience the love of God through the unifying work of the churches.
Unifying God, give us patience and wisdom to work together with other churches so that our communities experience your love. Amen. — WHB
