Friday January 27th, 2017 Psalm 15
O LORD, who may abide in your tent? (verse 1)
I love playing the piano and organ, and as a congregational organist, I have played for countless services. In choosing prelude music and hymns, I am amazed by so many with the theme of God’s dwelling place. Many speak of its loveliness, the serenity and refuge it provides. God’s dwelling place is certainly somewhere Christians aspire to go home to. We all wish to dwell in God’s house forever, as stated in Psalm 23.
Psalm 15 opens by asking who may dwell in God’s sanctuary and live on God’s holy hill. David goes on to list the walk and the talk that is required of his people in order to be a part of God’s sanctuary.
As we read those requirements, we have to say a thank-you to God for the gracious love and forgiveness daily showered upon us. In the waters of our baptismal promise, we are renewed and refreshed. Every day is a chance to start again, for in our human journey we constantly fail. We could never live up to the requirements David has listed, but God’s love and faithfulness to us enables us to never be shaken and to live with hope in the promise of God’s lovely dwelling place.
Lord, thank you for preparing a place where we will dwell in peace forever. Amen. — EPS
