Delight and joy

God is always doing something new. But not always is it easy to see.
In Isaiah 65, the Israelites are about to return from exile. They may be expecting to walk back into the known, familiar territory of what was once home. But God is not preserving what was. God is saying that the things of the past will not be remembered.
Sometimes we must let go of things, so we can move forward into the future God has promised. Have you ever tried to remove your jacket with something in your hand? Once you let go, you are set free.
I am entering semi-retirement, and I can see it is going to take a while for this new future to be fully seen because of the cloud of things I am afraid to let go of. God is going to create a new future with joy and delight and will bless it! Christ’s resurrection shows us new life is possible.

O God, free us from what binds us and open our eyes to the future you are making, that not just will be, but is our joy and delight, here and now. Amen.
