Humble Hearts

In my teenage years, my home church had a very strong youth group. Several of us formed a folk group and began to sing in church. We wore jeans and T-shirts and used guitars and tambourines. There were many people who were not pleased with our type of worship. We did not follow the rules. That seems to be the case of today’s youth-they do not always conform to what others expect.

Many people act righteous, following all the rules, then look down on those who don’t. We forget that our rules may not be God’s rules. These young people who need to find their faith journey, who need the grace of God, will exult in God’s presence.

We should also remember that God looks at our hearts, not at how we follow rules. Our love for God should keep us humble, and we need to worship with our hearts. We cannot be what we are not; we are all born in sin, and we all fall short of the glory of God. If we are meek and admit that we need God’s grace, then we will rejoice with all God’s people, rule followers or not.

God of Grace, help me to always do my part to worship you with all my heart. Amen. — BZ
